Wildlife & Remote Islands

On Captain Jack’s Fort Myers eco tours, we often run north toward Cayo Costa and North Captiva Island. These beautiful barrier islands are only accessible by boat, which helps keep them quiet, peaceful, and full of wildlife.

Along the way it’s common to see dolphins cruising the shoreline, manatees swimming in the shallow bays, sea turtles surfacing, and a wide variety of coastal birds. Every trip is a little different, but there’s almost always something exciting to see.

These islands are also famous for shelling. With miles of undeveloped beaches and limited access, Cayo Costa and North Captiva are known as some of the best places in the world to search for unique shells along the shoreline.

Shelling at Cayo Costa & North Captiva

One of the highlights of our eco tours in Fort Myers, Sanibel, and Captiva is spending time exploring the remote beaches of Cayo Costa State Park and North Captiva Island.

These islands are mostly undeveloped and can only be reached by boat, which means you’ll often feel like you have the beach almost entirely to yourself. The shelling here can be incredible, especially after calm nights or strong tides.

Guests love being able to walk the shoreline, collect shells, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of these hidden barrier islands.

Lunch at Cabbage Key

Another favorite stop on our Fort Myers eco tours is lunch at the famous Cabbage Key.

This small island restaurant is only accessible by boat and is known for its old Florida charm, incredible waterfront views, and legendary cheeseburgers. The restaurant itself is covered in thousands of signed dollar bills left by visitors over the years.

Getting there is part of the experience. The ride takes us through winding mangrove tunnels and shallow coastal bays where wildlife sightings are common along the way.
